Naturist News from Western Cape
July in the Western Cape means that we are half way through Winter, but is it really Winter, we certainly have been experiencing a bit of all the four seasons lately.
Winter started off with the traditional Cape wet and cold weather, a sprinkling of snow on the peaks of the Du Toits Kloof Mountain range, then we had weeks of Spring temperatures running into the mid 20s and in the Boland a dash of Summer thrown in followed by an almost gale force Summer South Easterly wind.
They say that it is rather difficult to please everyone, rain for the farming community and our dams, sunny weather for those who thrive on outdoor life and our traditional Cape winds that bring rain to our northern neighbours.
Nature wise, the Western Cape has surely tried to please all, now is that not true Western Cape hospitality for you!!
And that is exactly what WCNA has endeavored to achieve for the past year, to please our members!!
The Western Cape Naturists Association will be one year old in September when we once again have our Annual General Meeting in September. Details of this important event have already been posted on the Website Events Calendar.
Looking back on the past year I feel proud to have served with a team so dedicated in promoting naturism and especially eager to please all the members.
In all the committee, as well as the general meetings, there were always two highlighted questions:
Do we understand what the members want? and Can we grow to deliver and promote naturism in the way that our members want?
We are emerging from the challenges of the past year as a stronger association focused on realizing values through unsurpassed and good-natured membership. The commitment of the Committee is to use all our efforts and skills to meet the expectations of YOU, the members. If we are to see continued improvement to the quality of what we are trying to achieve and also the preservation of naturism, we must all work together and in so doing we surely will succeed.
We would like to get more feedback from YOU the members, on where WCNA can make improvements, tell us where we need to adjust our strategy, where we are not doing things as YOU the members expect, but we also need to know when we are doing things right. You cannot plough a field in your mind, we need your voice, your input, because YOU, the members are the backbone of WCNA.
So there you have it, I believe that the Committee of any organization should always make an effort to be like our 2011 Cape Winter, 4 seasons in one, listen to everyone’s voice and make sure that they know we have heard them. Maybe difficult at times, but a challenge that WCNA certainly will not shy away from!!
Membership / Profile Questionnaire / Disclaimer Document
Two new members have been approved and are on the site: A warm welcome, we hope that WCNA will open the door to the naturist lifestyle that you have been seeking.
Many potential members have contacted us requesting the password to gain access to our website, but when the Profile Questionnaire is sent to them, they disappear!! I leave it to you to judge what their intentions were when asking for our password!!!
The Profile Questionnaire as explained before, is strictly for administrative purposes, we also need to know your birthday for those good wishes of course, but, believe it or not, there are still Profiles outstanding, so some members may not receive their birthday wishes on their birthday. The Profile information is placed on a Membership database and is actually very minimal, Name, Address, Contact number, Birthday and the few words on yourself and naturism, that’s all.
Or do you prefer to be like this naturist…………………..???
The Disclaimer Document, as explained before, is an important document for any organization.
When attending events, members will be requested to complete this document.
Application to register as a non profit organization:
We applied for registration early this year and after a reminder we have finally heard from the Department of Social Development stating that our application has been received and will be completed shortly.
International Naturist Federation:
"Naturism is a way of life in harmony with nature, characterized by the practice of communal nudity, with the intention of encouraging respect for oneself, respect for others and respect for the environment".
Who are naturists? They are young couples, families with children, seniors, retired people, young adults, single men and women, every facet you will find in any group. All ages, sizes, shapes, races and religions.
What are naturists? They are people who have a respect for themselves, others and the naturist environment.
The International Naturist Federation is an organization consisting of members in thirty countries. Together with other interested parties involved in naturist activities, the INF works to enhance and improve the naturist understanding and the naturist environment by promoting the benefits of naturism to the general public.
The INF also provides a variety of services to naturists including the scheduling and coordination of several important events. These include the World Congress, held every two years at different clubs throughout the world, athletics and sporting events consisting of an International Volleyball Tournament, swimming gala's and youth meetings, Central Committee meetings and Executive Committee meetings.
As mentioned in our June newsletter, to be recognized internationally, WCNA had to be affiliated to Sanfed (South African Naturist Federation) but after much correspondence with the INF in seeking direct membership, we have at last received official word that we have permission to become extra-ordinary members which means that we are now recognized internationally. The few matters still to be finalised are just the normal protocol and should be completed shortly.
Llandudno Civic Association:
Aimee Hoppe has been in contact with the Llandudno Civic Association regarding working together for the preservation of the Sandy Bay area as a safe and decent place for naturists to visit.
The correspondence is ongoing and the L/C/Association continues to liaise with SANParks but no significant development has surfaced as yet.
Sandy Bay, Cape Town’s naturist jewel, lies some 18 kilometres from the center of Cape Town and can be reached by a winding, scenic road that follows the Twelve Apostles Mountain through the upmarket suburb of Llandudno. Wooded walkways have been built in some places to protect the vegetation and make things easier for visitors. Sandy Bay beach area comprises a number of beaches inter-spaced with massive granite slabs.
As seen above, the Sandy Bay area is beyond doubt one of Cape Town’s most beautiful scenic beaches, let us hope and trust that future meetings between the Llandudno Civic Association and SANParks will be fruitful, resulting in adequate security and maintenance for the area, which will then allow all visitors to enjoy the beauty and safety of a magnificent beach.
As stated before, the new website that we had planned to launch early this year has not met with our expectations nor our requirements, however Serge our Chairperson has been in contact with new members, who are in the software business and together they have come up with a great user friendly website for WCNA which is almost complete. The necessary transfer procedure will be publicized to first inform you before the current website is substituted.
WCNA Financial Statements:
Our financial statements are reviewed and discussed in detail at each monthly committee meeting as well as our quarterly members meeting with the closing balance of the Business Cheque and Savings account noted in the minutes and then posted on the WCNA website. As always, a detailed compilation of these accounts are available to all on request. Please contact our Treasurer, Aimee Hoppe or myself for a copy of these accounts.

Annual General Meeting:
The next Annual General Meting will be held on Saturday 03 September, 2011 when we will all cast our votes for a committee of our choice, time is moving on, 4 weeks and its show time, so, please start thinking of potential members who you would like to be on the WCNA Committee. The voting power of each member is one vote per paid up WCNA member. Any member entitled to representation at the meeting and cannot attend may delegate any individual member of WCNA to speak or vote on his/her behalf.
The procedure regarding the election of committee members is clearly set out in Clause 10 of the WCNA Constitution.
Please place this event as a high priority event on your agenda, as many important decisions will be made at this meeting.
In addition to the AGM we have arranged a Bring & Braai social event after the meeting. 01 September is officially the start of Spring, but we will use this get together after the meeting as our End of Winter Event.
Our founding AGM last year was held at a member’s residence in the Durbanville area and this year we have moved further a field to Somerset West, also at a member’s residence.
Details of the venue / time, etc. have been placed in the Events Calendar on the Website.
Agenda for the Annual General Meeting:
The Agenda for the AGM has been posted on the Website, please check it to make sure that any issue that you think that needs to be addressed will be on the Agenda when the meeting starts.
Our Winter Bring & Braai day events:
Finding venues for Winter naturist events, especially weekend events, are not always as easy as in the Summer months but we kicked off our Winter Events with two fantastic Day Events in Welgelegen as well as in Blaauberg as seen below, where some of the members are very interested in the Sharks and the Cheetas game, some are playing pool, some in the Jacuzzi, while others are just enjoying their favorite sundowner.
The turnout was good, everything went like clockwork, a huge Thank You to the hosts, you guys went out of your way to make us feel at home!!
Our Summer Event Program:
Our Summer program has been finalised with Badensfontein, Riversdale and Du Toits Kloof already booked. All the necessary details for these three events have been posted on the website Events Calendar.
Riversdale (below) has been booked for the last weekend of November.
Olive Glen Farm in the Du Toits Kloof mountains has been reserved for our New Years Eve Bash, which will be a 3 night camping event from Fri.30 December to Sun. 01 January, 2012, the Monday being a public holiday.
There is no electricity in the Olive Glen camp site but the ample candles and gas lamps actually emphasize the natural romantic beauty of camping in natures garden. A rechargeable power pack is available for a Laptop and speakers and of course to sing “Auld Lang Syne” at midnight, when we reminisce on the times gone by!!
Badensfontein Camp Site in Montague has been booked for the last weekend in January, 2012.
Badensfontein is situated at the foot of the Waboomsberg on a beautiful wine producing farm in peaceful and tranquil surroundings, truely an ideal place to relax and enjoy nature.
A true kaleidoscope of scenic tranquillity, the perfect place to unwind and leaving will be your only disappointment!!!
And that wraps it up for this month, please share all your naturist experiences with us, send us your stories, how you were introduced to naturism, your experiences as a naturist and also suggestions, what we are doing right, what we are doing wrong, yes, we want it all and if we get it all, we will always have a newsletter to look forward to each month.
Remember what I said about ploughing a field in your mind!!!!
A setting Sun is always a spectacular sight no matter where you are and it always reminds me of a few words in a speech made by Sir Winston Churchill in 1940.
“We are going through a tough time, but if we stand together, the Sun will never set on our beloved country”
So, no matter how beautiful the Setting Sun may seem, I truly believe that if we work together and share our thoughts, the Sun will never set on our beloved Western Cape Naturists Association!!!!
Till next month,
